Outdoor Worship & Picnic

September 3rd, 2017

At least once or twice a summer, usually around the July 4th and Labor Day holidays, the faith community at Bethlehem Lutheran moves worship outdoors to celebrate summer, to worship in God’s creation, and to give thanks for our nation, citizenship and vocations.

The congregation gathers on the church’s Memorial Patio for a somewhat abbreviated and casual service led by guitars, bass, flute & keyboard.  After worship there is an old fashioned church picnic with hotdogs, hamburgers, and potluck contributions from church members.

Join us on Sunday, July 2nd!  Everyone is invited to wear the red, white and blue.

Pre-worship sing-a-long begins at 9:45 a.m. Worship at 10:00 a.m.

Picnic barbecue follows worship

Burgers, hotdogs, drinks, and chips provided

Bring potluck side dish or dessert to share

(Freewill offering defers cost of this event)

The tradition of outdoor worship at Bethlehem began during the years when Pastor Brian and Bethlehem youth participated in summer Bible Camp at Blue Slide Camp in far northern California.  Returning from a week of Camp the Youth wanted to share something of their camp experience, so the congregation came outdoors, sang Bible camp songs, and shared a camp meal.

The tradition of outdoor worship continues, centered now often around the holidays of July 4th and Labor Day
